You will arrive at our
office in Statesboro, Georgia, U.S.A. at 8:30 am. (If you have made
prior arrangements with our staff you will be picked up at your
hotel for transfer to our office.)
A nurse will interview you in a private room and record your vital
signs.
Our Office Manager will meet with you to answer any questions that
you may have concerning insurance and billing.
You will then meet
with your doctor at which time a complete and thorough history and
physical will be performed.
A colposcopic
examination will also be performed and any necessary biopsies taken.
The biopsy results will be discussed with you by
your doctor within one hour. Depending upon these results a
treatment plan will be decided upon by you and your doctor.
Everything about the treatment plan will be explained to you in
detail and a consent form will be signed. You will be scheduled
for the safest, least invasive, and most effective procedure to be
performed that afternoon.
You will then be
escorted to the nearby lab for the appropriate lab work to be drawn. In the afternoon you
will be escorted to The Women's Surgery Center pre-op area where you
will be prepared for surgery. An I.V. will be placed.
Your nurse
anesthetist will introduce himself and interview you at this time.
Your doctor will see
you in the pre-op area to again discuss the planned procedure and to
answer any questions that you might have.
You will then be
brought to the operating room and anesthesia administered.
The procedure may take anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour. Your
doctor will be very thorough in eliminating any dysplasia on the cervix or upper vagina.
When you are having surgery performed in The Women's Surgery Center you have the full attention of the entire
staff. You will be the only one being operated on in The Center at
that time. After surgery you will
be brought to the post-op area for recovery. You will have your own
fully trained recovery room nurse (R.N.) to care for you at this
time. When you are fully
recovered your doctor will review the procedure with you and give you
the appropriate post-operative instructions. After being discharged,
your recovery room nurse will call you that evening at home or at your
hotel to check on you.
You will
also be given the direct phone number to contact your on-call nurse
in case you have any problems after leaving. Your doctor will call
you within two weeks to check on you and to discuss the pathology
report if a cone biopsy was performed. A
complete record of your care by our specialists will be sent to your
hometown doctor if you so request. |
