If you have had painful
periods for more than six months you may have a disease called
endometriosis. This disease can cause pelvic pain, irregular
bleeding, and severe internal scarring. Many women with untreated
endometriosis develop infertility and the need for hysterectomy.
Early
treatment can often protect a woman's ability to
have children and prevent the need for hysterectomy. Early treatment
includes oral contraceptive pills and anti-inflammatory medications
like Motrin, Aleve, or Advil. |

If
these medicines don't stop the pain then a simple, outpatient procedure
called laparoscopy (band-aid surgery) can often remove the active disease,
eliminate the pain, and protect a woman's ability to have children.
This procedure
can now be safely performed at The Women's Surgery Center and
does not require a hospital visit!
